Clevedon Seafront – The only way to save Clevedon seafront is to vote Conservative
I have spent the last year of my life knocking on doors, come rain or shine (And let me tell you I much prefer shine) I have spent the past 12 months talking to people. Now I have experienced a wide range of responses from being invited in for coffee to having the door slammed in my face, but for the most part people have wanted to talk to me.
Now I suspect that this won’t be surprising to many people but the overwhelming issue I have heard about is the debacle of Clevedon Seafront, and the tidal wave of opposition from local people to it. I have spoken with many people who feel ignored, especially by a Council organising a consultation right in the middle of a lockdown. Within that Consultation it is worth noting that apparently 66% of those in favor live within a mile of the ward. Having talked to over a 1000 people in Clevedon, I am yet to find this 66%!
The Rainbow Council’s decision to destroy our historic Victorian Seafront has been condemned by residents and business alike, and quite rightly. For me the best way to sum this whole thing up is ‘If it isn’t broke don’t fix it’.
But our Seafront is now broken and does require fixing, hence why in 2022 (After some persuading and reluctance on my part) I decided to put my name forward to stand for North Somerset Council as a Conservative Candidate.
Now why as a Conservative, you may ask yourself. For me it’s a twofold reason, firstly the Rainbow Council is made up of Independents, Liberal Democrats, Labour and the Greens (Basically everyone but the Conservatives) all of these parties are responsible for the destruction of Clevedon Seafront and so I couldn’t stand for any of them.
Secondly, because of the way this scheme has been presented and implemented it now means that only the North Somerset Council Executive can make any alterations to it. As such standing as an Independent claiming, you will be able to make any changes to the Seafront is simply a falsehood.
The Conservatives are pledging that if elected on May the 4th then the Seafront will be fixed. To put it bluntly, only under a Conservative run North Somerset Council will any changes be made to the Seafront. So, if you like me are tired of being ignored by the Rainbow Council then I hope you will join me in standing up for local people and vote Conservative on May the 4th.
