Peter has a long standing involvement in local government and community matters having served on
Avon County Council, Planning and Transport and Public Rights of Way committees
Woodspring District Council Area Planning Chairman and Vice chairman of the Planning and conservation committee
North Somerset Unitary Authority. Chaired Works and Environmental Control committee executive member for Environmental Services followed by executive member for Planning and Transport under the Lib Conservative coalition.
He has served as a member of Portishead Town Council twice becoming Chairman and as Chairman of the Planning committee.
As the Chairman and Trustee of Portishead Horticultural Society, Peter helps organise and run the popular Portishead annual Summer Show.
His other community involvements include being a trustee of the local Katherine Chappell Charity Trust
With his special interest in planning, transport and the environment,
Peter chairs a small working group on Weston Big Wood set up by Portishead Town council to update the ecological and social importance of continuing to protect the wood and its setting.
Peter has a long involvement in land drainage issues serving for many years on the local drainage board and is currently Vice Chairman of the North Somerset Internal Drainage Board. He also chairs the Somerset Drainage Boards environmental committee. He has served for 15 years as North Somerset’s representative on the Environment Agency Regional Flood and Coastal Defence Committee and the local government standing commission on Rural affairs.
Peter lives in Portishead South Ward and is married with two adult children. He was educated at Gordano School and Bristol Technical College and later gained an advanced diploma in Raptor Biology from the University of Kent.
Since retiring from full time employment Peter has worked part time for an education agency and as recovery crew for a local hot air balloon company.
Peter is a founder member of the Hawk Trust and has supported there work for over 50 years

Peter's spare time activities include tending his local small holding and exercising his dogs and hawks in and around the Gordano Valley. He uses his specialist knowledge of birds of prey to assess and release back to the wild injured birds of prey treated by local vets and the RSPCA.
